Stand by me

.
.
This is a picture of my 82 year-old dad visiting my 77 year-old mom in the hospital this morning. They've been married over 55 years and still have a love that is stronger than sunlight. My dad had several strokes and can barely move and he managed to wink at her and hold her hand. My mom has short term memory loss, making her knee surgery and a stay in the hospital an endless groundhog day.
.
Fortunately they have an army of family and caretakers smoothing their journey.
.
Today is our eighteenth wedding anniversary. We are postponing our romantic dinner for a couple of weeks waiting until things slow down, secure in the knowledge that two weeks from now we will still be married, still love each other and still have things to talk about.
.
.
Marilyn.
.

When the night has come
And the land is dark,
And the moon is the only light we'll see.
No I won't be afraid,
Oh I won't be afraid,
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

.
.

Dearest Marilynsky and Wonderhub,
Happy anniversary. It was an honor to be a part of that wonderful day at the Museum. It doesnt seem possible that 16 years has passed by so quickly.
As I see it your parents figured out how it really works a long time ago. through thick and thin, happy or sad, everyday needs to be like the first and the last. I love you all.

Your mother is in our prayers for a speedy recovery, and may you dad's health improve. My mom and dad had nearly 59 years together, and I love you expression of their love being "stronger than sunlight". I can still remember how my mom and dad would stop for a smooch in the little refridgerator room between the little kitchen and the big kitchen. My mom would say, "Oh, that was strawberry", or chocolate,or vanilla, of whatever flavor the kiss remided her of at that moment.
May your mom recover quickly and her knees take her wonderful places. I am only 61, but my right knee gives me problems, and I go up and down stairs as if I were 90.
Keep up your wonderful, inspiring work, and have fun with mom and dad.

My parents were married 42 years, setting the stage for long marriages for my brothers and myself. My brothers--three of them--have been married for well over forty years each...I tallied up thirty-two years in February. I also know what it is like to watch a beloved parent suffer through strokes. My father started having them in 1976, and, because of a weakened system and pneumonia bade us farewell in 1986.....still miss him. Harvest Moon

Crying buckets. So very glad that your parents still have each other and you and the Wonderhub do too.

Hugs,

Oh, Marilyn. I'm all choked up.

Better health to your parents, and a great celebration for your anniversary whenever you get to it.

Best of luck to your mom, hope she heals as quickly as possible. Sometimes, it is the journey, not the milestones that matter. You are being very sane.

That's a GREAT picture. Thanks for sharing.
