Summertime, summertime, sum sum summertime,,,,
Oh gosh, where did this week go? It sure was a busy one! Our Art Hunt friends left to continue their US tour in Salt Lake, Tuesday I went with my art buddies to Children's Hospital of Orange County to draw for some of the kids there in the cancer ward. We are working on a book where the kids write a story and we illustrate it for them. They are great to work with and really fun.
.
Thursday, the wonderhub, the Boy and I went to the world famous ComicCon. Dang! What a cool day! We came back with all kinds of swag, books and neat comics.... not to mention very tired feet. We took the train down and it was super fun. Klingons, Elves, Stormtroopers, you name it, we saw it.
.
I'm starting to work on the inkwork for my upcoming "Haunted History" series. Ev Stanton, my writing partner is a historian and is researching all kinds of creepilicious stuff. The books are going to be in black and white so I'm hustling to get my ink work up to "mad skills" speed.
.
Here are a couple of crow studies.
.

.
Next week is the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators conference in Los Angeles. Ack! I need a clone!
.
.
Did you read comics growing up? I sure did, still do. Who's your favorite superhero? If you could have one superpower what would it be?
.
Up, up and away!
.
Marilyn.

Awesome crows! Seriously creepilicious. I didn't read superhero comics; I read old Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse comics my older cousins had left in the attic of their cabin. Just one superpower? Mmmm...I'd have to think to give a good answer, but the first one that I can think of is teleportation.

Hugs,

Julie

ComicCon! How fun!

I love the crows!

When I was little, my grandparents would buy me Archie comics and the like for our camping trips, probably to keep me busy on the long drive, and on rainy days. I never read much of anything else, but when I got older, most of my boyfriends were comic geeks.... ^_^ My ex-husband actually had a store for a while.

Wolverine was always my favorite, but while Terry had the shop I got into the CrossGen comics: Meridian, Mystic, and the CrossGen Chronicles. OH! And Elfquest! I LOVE Elfquest...

For superpowers, I'd love to be able to fly, and I think I want to live forever... Or at least a really long time...

How can I choose? I grew up reading comics-all of them! Superman was my favorite- but I loved the Green Lantern because he had cool jewelry and wore a
Robin Hood hat! I loved the whole League of Super Heroes and wondered why the president didn't just call them when he was worried about a nuclear attack!
(I'm in my fifties and remember being little and worrying about cataclysmic wars and pinning my hopes on Super Heroes!)
My mom would take us to the grocery store with her and leave me to pick out 1 comic book - I read all the ones I didn't want and then chose the latest Superman to buy. I always wanted to be invisible so I could read and read and no one would notice me!

Your crows are great! Shadows and shades of shivering suspense-eerie and leery and Dark!

I wish I had read comics as a kid...

... I vote for teleportation, too. I'd like to be able to fly, but I think teleportation would be more practical. And I'd like to have telekinesis, but then I'd probably just get lazy and fat.
