I met Alice!
Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! I'm doing the flappy, slappy, happy dance right now. I just got back from having lunch with my Studio group and the amazing and wonderful Alice Provensen. She is a children's book illustrator, a Caldecott winning art goddess illustrator. Photos of the lunch coming soon.
.
.
Here are some samples of her work. She is known by many folks for her wonderful Little Golden Books like The Color Kittens and The Children's Garden of Verses. Here's some of the work she did with her husband Martin.

AND, AND! She wants to join our group. So of course we said yes. She's coming next Wednesday and we are going to get to WORK!

I am made out of happiness.

Oh, how lucky you are! My husband grew up with the Maple Hill Farm books, and our four-year-old daughter loves them too!

Gee, she's been around for a long time. I had Funny Bunny as a kid and I'm no spring chicken. It'll be great to have someone with her experience and knowledge to talk with.

That's wonderful! I love the gouache illustrations of that era. Her work is classic.

I'm a huge fan of JP Miller and Richard Scarry's gouache work for Golden Books, too.

I feel like I need a cocktail and a little Pucci dress. Wow...what a flashback. What a neat experience you must have had!
